heroes are not dead: Jonny Aherne

1. Hi Jonny. How are you? If i could buy you a drink what will you be having?
hello mushi, i'm a little cold. i'm in germany and haven't brought enough warm clothing since it's supposed to be summer. You can buy me a hot chocolate. i'm cold!

2. What is the first thing you're going to eat when you get back to Melbourne your hometown?

man (i'm) craving some of mum's cooking. she does a great cashew chicken dish.

3. I really love " Down River ". What's the inspiration for the song?
Down river was inspired by my little sister Sharon. it's about your situation being completely against you, but not letting it take hold of you. (It's about) fighting the good fight .

4. Can you recommend to us an Australian band? I really like Bridezillaa and Snowman.
yea a band called 'The Middle East' are the up and comers for sure.

5. What have you been listening to lately?

A bit of sleigh bells, mumford and sons- i cant look past them at the moment. 100 in the hand, Beach House, and Bon Iver.

6. Favourite old school song of all time?
Chumbawamba : i get knocked down

7. Favourite new band?
beach house.

8. Let's say I have never been to Melbourne, Australia. What should I do if I go to visit?
Don't listen to anyone about where to go and just walk down any laneway. You will feel like you're making discoveries. And drink loads of coffee.

9. You have played Glastonbury, Coachella, the USA, Europe, Japan etc. Where is the best place to play and why?

Japan, Summer Sonic was the best for me. the line up was great: Flaming Lips, Beyonce. the people are amazing and the food is amazing. the fashion is amazing. simply said it was amazing the show. we played there and it was the first time we ever played to over 5000 people so it was a real rush!

10. Last but not least- any fatherly advice to young bands hoping to play music?
well just hang in there. Aim for the stars and with the patience as if your sailing there. Your intentions should be healthy and don't let pride get in the way. As a band experience? i think it's as good as (long as ) there is ability to get along & love each other and all that stuff.

Cheers Jonny!
